Where I worked it was hot inside almost everyday. This time of year around 80 when ya walked in in the morning. I am cooling it down in here at night and keep fans going all the time. In a couple weeks I can possible get the central air fixed. I would rather do that than buy a window unit. Wouldn't be able to get one of them any sooner.

It runs but isn't very "safe" right now. Almost bare wiring and the other connection from the ac unit to the furnace. Needs to be raised out of the dirt. I could burn it out running it the way it is. Yup one of those things I should have gotten done a couple years ago. Hasn't been touched since about 1984 when it was installed.

Really? Well they must be gougin us out here in desert then. Go with at least a 12,000 if you can afford it. Good for about 400 sq ft. in an 8 ft high room. That way it will shut off now and then. The 6,000's will work but 200 sq ft ain't much. With a 12 you can cool down a room to like 60 early in the morning then open the door and pull the cool air out with a fan.
And remember, it's not about cool. It's about displacing heat, and for folks in wetter climates.... getting rid of the humidity. Shade the outside coils if you can.

Ya, Wally World has a off brand 5,000 for 98 bucks, and Home Dump has a 5,000 for 100 bucks in Zenith brand, and an LG 6500 for 150 bucks, would be good for the bedrooms.

One that small is going to run continuously. I've got a 6000 in the extra bedroom but my heat load is a lot more than yours so you might get away with it. Still, get bigger if you can.

Foghorn might be pickin one up that a co worker used for a couple years till they put in central air, not sure the size, but one in each bedroom and one for the dinning room will keep the humidity down and a lot cooler than it is now.

I've got two 12's and a 6 for 1700 ft. But I also run a small swamper from about 9am to 9pm. Hardly ever run the 6, and only during higher temps do we have both 12's on at the same time. Current temp is 86. Current humidity is 10%. Shucks, we got the doors open. Will be closing it up soon though
