Jay, Pete has told me about these before, they run in teams, some blocking for who they want to win, more or less a wreckem rodeo at high speed. I wish someone would go over there and tape some of them so we could watch them here.

We use to have this old fella at OPS with a homemade mini stock.1.98 his number. He would start at the back, stay out of everyones way, finish 4 laps down in a 20 lap feature. Checkered flag he'd pop a parachute out of the back of his little putt putt.Drivers did'nt mind him cause he was an old retired guy that built a homemade car and stayed out off there way, track officials allowed it cause he just loved being there and would help any team any division in the pits.He won most popular driver in the minis many times.

A guy at Oswego speedway in N.Y named Nolan Swift had a car #10, Called it the 10 pins. He had 10 Bowling pins from a game on top that had lights in them and when he would take the lead he would flip a switch and they would light up!!

Jim Hall's Chaparral Can-Am fan car. It used fans to suck air out from under the car. This is my all time favorite race car! I can't remember all the stats for the year they raced it. I think it won almost all the poles & almost all of the races before it got banned. Nothing would or could go thru the corners like this bad boy! I liked Hall's earlier cars--the wing would level out down the straights for max speed & and then drop back down under deceleration and braking.

Imagine where F1 or other forms of racing would be today if innovation was actually encouraged instead of outlawed. Of course, not unlike today, you would have the well heeled teams winning everything and then the also rans.

If ya watch these Supermodifieds You can see the wing pivots on them. Air cylinders allow them to flatten out on the straights! Bevel down in the corners for down force! If you have never seen a supermodified race, You're missing out www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKu3e6Fl8yo

Skids, I used to see those occasionally on ESPN, seems like a long time ago now. IIRC, the west coast Supers ran the wings and the Oswego Supers didn't run wings.

Sorry Aff...I've never been that far north. I was always a little leery of those Yankees!! LOL Spent one labor day weekend at Santa Fe Speedway in Chicago! The FIRST time i ever saw a program start & end on time! Up until then, i thought it perfectly acceptable to start an hour late & end the races at sometime after 2 a.m. Went thru that experience last Sat. night--that's why i'm home this Sat. night!
I've just always tried to keep abreast of the goings on in the racing world. One of these days, i'm going to Syracuse, NY to watch that big un'!
I wonder if DirtDevil remembers when they had a D.I.R.T. Modified race at Boothill Speedway?
